In 1983 Jane went to the Boyd auction in Lindsay, Ontario. Many beautiful objects became part of her collection. But she took away memories of a grand cultural life and key to that life were pieces of vintage clothing in particular the dresses. The dress paintings have extended that memory and speak of other women ,same vintage. The paintings speak of the beauty of the woman through the beauty of the garment. The dresses once hung in Jane’s 1865 farmhouse window come alive with light and reveal wonderful transparencies and structures. The original owners were also researched and stories have been written combining performance and visuals.
